Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)

This work visa is designed to respond to the needs of Australian employers. The sponsoring business must be located in any area of Australia outside Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne and Perth. Employers can recruit and nominate skilled people to fill positions that cannot be filled from the Australian labour market or through their own staff training.

This work visa is similar to the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) but is designed to benefit employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia.

This Australian work visa may be applied for inside or outside Australia and all applicants must meet health and character criteria. Certain work visa applicants will also need to meet the English language requirement.

Employer Requirements

  1. Lawfully and actively operating business which must be located in a regional area under the Regional Certifying Body’s jurisdiction
  2. Direct employer of the employee
  3. Good business record and abide by immigration laws
  4. The Employment must be of benefit to Australia
  5. Demonstrate that their Australian business operations advance the skills of the existing workforce
  6. Have a current training strategy for existing Australian employees, or if a newly established business, have a training plan for future training of Australian employees
  7. Position requirements - the nominated position must be a permanent full-time of no less than two years, meet all relevant Australian laws and award conditions, meet the minimum skills level and meet the minimum salary level
  8. English language - certain work visa applicants will need to meet the English language requirement.
